In order to improve the simulation methods for complex flows in turbomachinery, several linear and non-linear eddy viscosity models are investigated in separated, transitional and rotating flows. Compared to linear models, non-linear models show obvious improvements with similar numerical properties. With a moderate increase in computer time, the V2F-model performs best in turbulent as well as transitional flows. In complex transitional flows, where the accurate determination of boundary layer parameters is difficult, the V2F-model is a very good alternative to the commonly applied empirical transition models.
