Having in mind the design and optimization of process plants built to deplete and concentrate diluted heavy metal-loaded rinsing and process waste water with the help of liquid/liquid reactive extraction in hollow fiber modules, because of the multiplicity of measured variables a valid model is indispensable. By using the chemical system Zn
2+, water/ HDEHP, Dodecane/ H
2SO
4 a model exclusively on base of mass transfer kinetics, without fitting, and therefore portable to other chemical systems was developed. The validity of the model was experimentally verified using an extraction/stripping plant, operated in continuously mode. By the proven reliability of the model calculation the influence of module circuits and module geometry on the extraction performance is accessible as well as the influence of the operating conditions.
