The thermo- and fluiddynamic processes in flow channels with turbulence promotors and tube bundle heat exchangers with non-circular profile tubes have been investigated at the laminar-turbulent transition region. The examinations have been performed using the optical measurement techniques of holographic interferometry and laser-Doppler-velocimetry as well as numerical methods. Parameters such as size, spacing, arrangement and size of the turbulence promotors and tube profiles have been compared. With certain arrangements of the turbulence promotors and the tube profiles respectively, optimum results could be achieved considering the enhancement of heat transfer and the increase in pressure drop.
