In the present work a series of water-soluble polymers containing the benzoylthiourea group were prepared and their interactions with different metal ions were studied through application of the ultrafiltration process. The polymeric complexing agents form very stable water-soluble complexes with toxicologically relevant heavy metal ions such as Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Hg(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II) and allow in combination with the ultrafiltration technique their selective separation and recovery from industrial waste water and process solutions.
