Phenanthroline and bipyridine scaffolds are among the most widely used chelating ligands in organic synthesis. In this Ph.D. thesis, new chiral ligands were developed, combining the favorable properties of these dinitrogen compounds with a chiral backbone featuring a lactam motif. The applicability of these ligands was investigated in C–H bond activation, examining hydrogen bonds as a control element for substrate coordination. In this context, a novel bipyridine ligand was successfully applied in iridium-catalyzed borylation of hydantoins, achieving yields up to 83%.
