Effective universal antiviral agents that can act on existing viruses and viruses yet to emerge are not available. In this thesis we developed DNA origami shell-like structures which can encapsulate and neutralize whole viruses by steric occlusion. We report a nanoshell system with broad-spectrum virus trapping properties, which allowed the encapsulation of adeno, adeno-associated, chikungunya, dengue, human papilloma, noro, polio, rubella, zika and SARS-CoV-2 viruses in one and the same shell platform.
