In stapedotomy, an operation in the middle ear, a disturbed sound transmission is corrected by inserting an implant. Therefore, the manual perforation of the stapes footplate is necessary, with the risk of irreversibly damaging the inner ear. To increase patient safety and relieve the surgeon, a modular system for optional mechanical or robotic perforation support was developed and implemented as a clinical prototype of the Perforator Guidance System and a technical demonstrator of the Micro-Macro Robot System. The advantages and suitability of the systems were demonstrated in several experiments.
