The occurrence of periprosthetic joint or bone infection is a devasting complication. In this study recurrence of infection and further outcome parameters was determined depending on defined factors after two-stage exchange using an antibiotic-loaded cement spacer. Osteomyelitis requires more following surgery when two-stage exchange is closed than periprosthetic joint infections. Above, increasing pathogens showed higher risk to recurrent infections, whereas staphylococcus epidermidis was the most common pathogen. We featured two-stage exchange as an effective treatment to decrease recurrent infections for its reduction of pathogens
