Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) is the connection of vehicles and infrastructure through wireless communication with the goal to improve road traffic. In the present thesis, a method for the description of an overall C-ITS architecture is developed and applied. In this context, a theoretical framework is developed that reflects the requirements of connected systems through modular structures and the necessary advancements of the architecture. A practical reference architecture is deduced, which in turn is the basis for the implemented system architecture of the C-ITS Corridor.
