This work contains three main parts. The first and second chapter deals with the successful intercalation of the biopolymers welan gum, λ-carrageenane and of six alginates into [Zn
2Al(OH)
6]
+ layered double hydroxide sheets and describes their interaction with calcium aluminate cements. In the third part the adhesive bonding of a freshly applied concrete on an existing concrete substrate was investigated. It was observed, that the roughness of the existing concrete surface as well as the combination of superplasticizer and cement in the fresh concrete plays an important role.
