Machine learning approach for extracting design knowledge in BIM models

Designing is one of the fundamental steps involved in anything related to architecture. Inparticular building design often refers to the process of taking a clients requirements for anew building or changes to an existing building and translating them into an agreed design that a constructor is then able to construct.One of the very first phases of any building design is coming up with the Schematic design.It is the phase of actually desiging the project and is one of the most difficult phases of theentire design process. The difficulty arises mainly because the requirements for the design vary from client to client. For example the layout of the area in which the building should bebuilt is usually very different for each client. In case of residential buildings number of roomsor which type of rooms must be included in the design are few other such requirements. Foran architect these requirements are a nightmare and most of the times its very hard to comeup with a unique design satisfying all requirements.Even after coming up with an unique design satisfying the requirements, the next bigproblem during any design phase is translating all the 2D designs into 3D models. Even withsoftware tools like Revit, AutoCAD translation information into 3D requires a lot of manualwork.Hence there comes a need for an automated pipeline to design 3D building models giventhe requirements of the clients. This way the process of the entire building design can be speeded up.     «
