The added value of final assembly lines is notably reduced by subsequent test procedures in order to detect assembly errors. Especially O-rings are fragile to damaging. However, knowledge of the physical and mechanical processes during the assembly is barely existent. In this dissertation these processes and their influence on the entire process are investigated in depth. Based on the knowledge obtained a process-integrated monitoring strategy is developed with the aim of preventing and detecting damage to o-ring type seals during the assembly.
