Improving business process performance is still a top priority of CIOs. However, many organizations are daunted by the challenges and risks that business process change (BPC) imposes. The staggering failure rates of BPC projects signify that practitioners and researchers still lack a clear understanding of the determinants impacting BPC success. This thesis begins to address this gap by answering the research question: what are the determinants for successful IT-enabled BPC. In order to answer this question, we conduct a comprehensive literature review, a case survey with 128 BPC projects and multiple case studies. For researchers, our research will expand the huge body of existing literature in the field of BPC and will provide a step toward a much needed theory of BPC. For practitioners, our findings will provide considerable support for determining which factors they need to consider when improving their business processes.      «

Die Verbesserung der Performanz von Geschäftsprozessen ist noch immer eine Hauptpriorität von CIOs. Nichtsdestotrotz sind vielen Organisationen auch die mit einer Geschäftsprozessveränderung verbundenen Herausforderungen und Risiken bewusst. Die noch immer sehr hohe Misserfolgsrate vieler solcher Projekte zeigt außerdem, dass Praktiker als auch Forscher noch immer kein einheitliches Verständnis über die Erfolgsfaktoren von Geschäftsprozessveränderungsprojekten haben. Diese Doktorarbeit nähert sich dem Thema in dem sie versucht zu erklären, welche Faktoren einen Einfluss auf den Erfolg von Geschäftsprozessveränderungsprojekten in privaten und öffentlichen Organisationen haben. Hierfür wurde im Rahmen der Doktorarbeit eine umfangreiche Literaturanalyse, ein Case Survey mit 128 Geschäftsprozessveränderungsprojekten und eine Fallstudie durchgeführt.      «
