Early metastasis is a hallmark of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and responsible for >90% of pancreatic cancer deaths. Using an
in vivo passaging approach it was possible to analyse the process of tissue specific metastasis of PDA. It was shown that Histondeacetylases (HDACs) and the transcription factor Snail play an essential role in silencing E-cadherin during the metastatic process of PDA
in vivo. These data link HDACs to the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis and suggest that HDACs are promising targets for antimetastatic therapy.
