An understanding of ecosystem change is central for the conservation of biodiversity. In this thesis, new methods aiming at a holistic and integrative approach to ecological data analysis, i.e. the simultaneous multivariate community response analysis of multiple taxonomic groups, are presented and validated for typical monitoring applications in freshwater. Important aspects of sampling design, taxonomic identification, and data analysis are synthesized into a step-by-step guideline for multivariate data integration, which is highly flexible in application for different ecosystem types.
