The purpose of this thesis is the analysis of the difficulties concerning the exchange process in BIM-based structural engineering and examine the background of these. For this, different test scenarios are run and fundamental knowledge about the exchange process is developed. Introductive, the term Building Information Modeling is defined and the BIM-based structural analysis is introduced. Additionally the basics of the exchange processes, the open data format Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and the certification of software products are explained to build the basis for the interpretation of the alphanumerical visualization of the test results in the further course of the thesis. In the according test scenarios a building model is exported from the modeling software Revit, Allplan and ArchiCAD and imported into the analysis software Scia. For this purpose, the building models were modeled in Revit and Allplan. Conclusively, the results are discussed and an outlook on the future developments concerning this topic is given.
