Working methods have been developed to support individuals and teams during problem solving, decision making etc. In practice we may notice, that these methods do not fulfill all the points expected and promised. If we try to increase efficiency and effectiveness in industry (not only in industry!), then we have to improve the use of methods and in addition the transfer of methods into industry. The focus of this paper is based on an engineer's view on working methods in engineering design and product development. There is of course the need for additional views from psychology, business sciences, etc. Some of these additional aspects have had strong influence on this paper.
