The Design Structure Matrix (DSM) and related techniques for dependency and structural modeling support the management of complexity by focusing attention on the entities of a complex system, e.g. a process, a project plan, or a product architecture, and how they are related to each other. Typical applications are e.g. the modular design of a new product and its variants, the better understanding of changes and how they propagate in a system, or the streamlined planning of a process. The International DSM Conference provides an annual platform for practitioners, researchers, and developers of DSM‐related tools to exchange experiences, discuss trends and showcase results and tools. It also acts as a forum to develop new ideas regarding complexity management in all kinds of industries and from many different perspectives. These proceedings present 33 contributions from science and industrial practice. Different fields of application are shown, including developments in matrix-based methodologies, process management, product design, and even biology. All contributions were peer reviewed.
