Differences between secondary and tertiary mathematics often cause problems for students entering teacher education programs at university. Hence, special instructions were implemented in a preparatory course and this course was evaluated. Beyond positive results of a self-evaluation survey a systematic implementation of heuristic worked examples and problem-solving showed differential effects on mathematical argumentation skills. This research makes a contribution to facilitate the secondary-tertiary transition in mathematics.
