Despite the large amount of research on both SOA and software quality, there is little documented knowledge on relationships between them. To overcome this research gap, this dissertation proposes a quality model for SOA that identifies impacts of both SOA as an architectural style and general architectural properties to software quality. SOA experts from academia and industry considered the model well-structured and understandable and found that it adequately addresses the important architectural properties.
Because the quality model is compatible with existing quality analysis tools, it allows for standardized, automated and reproducible architecture quality assessment. Moreover, because the same quality analysis tools also provide quality analysis of source code, this consolidation of tools can lead to cost reductions in software quality management.
