The data of 225 patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the first time and receiving treatment at the “Klinikum rechts der Isar” between 2003 and 2007, were analysed to examine the quality of operative and cytostatic therapy. Key points of analysis were the time to recurrence, overall survival rates, and the influence of various prognostic factors. In national and international comparisons therapy performance at the TUM, and the operative staging in particular, have proven to be of very high quality, for early as well as advanced ovarian cancer. Results of cytoreductive surgery are comparable to those of the AGO study group, showing 100% complete tumor resection in early stages of ovarian cancer and 35% complete tumor resection, 35% rest tumor 1-10 mm and 30% rest tumor>10mm respectively in advanced stages. The objective of treatment should be to achieve a higher rate of resection of diaphragmatic peritoneum or upper abdominal surgery in order to increase the proportion of complete tumor resections.
