Concerning complexity of information technology products and their development processes, especially early stages of product development, comprising generation of ideas, definition of requirements and solutions, continue to gain importance. At this stage, decisions of high significance have to be made which subsequently affect all later development steps. As analysis shows, development projects often lack a common understanding of problems and development goals. This thesis develops a function-oriented modeling approach to support product development, based on a meta-level for all disciplines and a link that is intuitively understandable for all disciplines. Thus, a possibility for presenting complexity, changes and potential effects on components and functions arises.
