Planning order picking systems based on progress simulation is very complex and involves high effort. As a consequence only pre-selected design versions are implemented as simulation models just before the project is realised.
Hence, a modeling and data concept was developed to standardize and simplify the implementation of simulation models. The development of a library of configurable simulation modules provides the basis of reduced effort required for creating simulation models. Furthermore a design environment was created to design and control planning versions.
By using this simulation environment, the impact of variable item and order data can be examined. An exemplary application shows, how planning versions can be compared already in the phase of rough planning.
