This thesis discusses panel painting no. 2 of the “Host-miracle-cycle” of the pilgrimage church St. Salvator in Donaustauf in the Upper Palatinate. The cycle, dated around 1600, contains eight large panel paintings showing the founding legend of the church. The thesis describes the condition of the painting and focuses on its restoration history. Further, a treatment protocol is developed which can be used in large parts for the treatment of the other paintings of the cycle. The paintings were contaminated by a former treatment with the wood preserver Xylamon, therefore worker protection and decontamination are discussed. As most of the common decontamination treatments are unsuitable for paintings, an experiment on decontamination with solvent compresses was carried out. However, it could not be shown that decontamination with solvent compresses was effective.
