Konrad Zuse designed during the last years of his life the helix tower, an automaton, which continually extends and retracts parts of its structural elements to form a tower. The first functional model is described, documented and set into operation again in this thesis. The circumstances and the background of the development of the helix tower can be deduced from archives as well as reports from contemporary witnesses. The HT2, a further developed, however no longer built construction, as well as two patents, extended by the application in wind power plants, are also described. Finally inventions of height adjustable constructions, which applications have been made for at the German patent and trade marks office, are also explained in order to point out the technical innovation of the helix tower.
