An increase in early strength is decisive for the production of concrete with high volumes of fly ash. This thesis focuses on the accelerating effect of organic additives on the pozzolanic reactivity of fly ash. The dissolution of fly ash glass, lime consumption and the heat of hydration of binders containing fly ash were investigated with regard to the strength development of mortar containing fly ash. Afterwards, the mechanisms occurring and the effect of organic additives on binders containing fly ash are discussed. Finally, the practical value of the additives is assessed.
