The grind-hardening process is an approach for martensitic surface hardening of steel parts using the heat generated during material removal with geometrically undefined cutting edges. However, the required effort for the experimental identification of process parameters currently restricts the process’ industrial usage. By employing the presented method for the computer-based process layout of grind-hardening, consisting in a systematic process modeling and the application of specific simulation approaches, an efficient implementation of this innovative manufacturing process is made possible.
