Far-reaching changes in society, competition and technology have led to a growing importance of product customization to better comply with increasingly individual customer preferences. However, offering customized products not only means a stronger need for structural planning and provision of necessary design options it also requires the integration of each customer into the design process and an individual adaptation of the product according to his particular requirements. In this context, the objective of the dissertation is to provide a methodological concept for customer-specific clarification of requirements and individual design modification. Here, a procedural model and corresponding design methods are elaborated. Moreover a method to plan and handle individual adaptation processes is conceived, which is based on systematically cross-linking individual requirements with the product component structure.
