When talking about complexity and its possible harmful impact, mostly the technical system is in the focus. Yet in the development of complex systems also complexity induced through processes and organizational structures plays a
role. Current approaches of complexity metrics and cost assessment do not consider these aspects adequately. This paper develops a framework to assess and evaluate the impact of organizational and process complexity and the connected cost. It combines a Multiple Domain Matrix with a six-step procedure to evaluate the impact of the selected four main complexity drivers. The potential and adaptability of the framework is shown by the application on industrial examples.
