Within the field of design methodology, there exists a large body of theories and tools for the support of product development and design processes. The application of these tools (in particular procedural models and design methods) in the course of concrete design projects is often difficult, because hints for their adaptation to the specific design situation are lacking. A comprehensive situational support of design processes represents a big challenge, since there exists no common understanding and a detailed, widely accepted definition of the term “design situation”. In this contribution, a concept is presented aiming at supporting individual designers on an operative level at situational design process planning and target-oriented application of design methods. The approach is characterized by the fact that parameters of the design situation, the design procedure and design methods are integrated into one comprehensive framework.
