Large-eddy simulations of injection of a jet into supersonic and subsonic fully developed turbulent channel flows have been performed using numerical schemes of high order of accuracy. Through a spanwise slot in one of the channel walls, a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen is injected into the air flow and is burned. This configuration is a simplied model of the injection of fuel into the combustion chamber of a scramjet engine. The statistical analysis of the simulation data provides fascinating insight into the structure of turbulence.
