As a result of the strong integration of ERP systems in the business processes of large companies it is extremely important to ensure sufficient performance capacities. Functional extensions may lead to performance degradation of the entire application and consequently to a costly impact on business operations. Using the example of SAP ERP, system-inherent factors influencing the performance are studied. Gaining these findings, a procedure for performance measurement, modeling and simulation is developed and evaluated. Within a laboratory environment the evaluation of the model is based on a comparison of simulation results and measured performance data.
