In this paper two mathematical models, namely the shear indeformable Euler-Bernoulli beam model and the shear-deformable Timoshenko beam model, are presented. Both methods are programmed with the use of MATLAB and the resulting deflections are compared to the exact analytical solutions for different cases of boundary conditions. Finally, the two methods are compared to each other in order to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each method, as well as the suitability of each method applied in different cases.
