The availability of powerful IT/IS is percieved as a driving force as well as a necessary prerequisite for new organizational solutions. However, even though the close interre-latedness of organizational structure and IT/IS has been widely recognized for a long time, a thorough understanding of their linkage is still missing. The research project NOF (New Organizational Forms) aims at closing the gap between the organizational and IS discipline in order to further the understanding and provide insights for future systems development. During the first phase of the project, a structured approach for researching new organizational forms was developed which distinguishes the two di-mensions intraorganizational dispersion and interorganizational governance. The se-cond phase, comprising theoretical considerations and case study work, will result in an interdisciplinary research framework as a first step towards a theory of new IT-enabled organizational forms. During the last phase of the project first reference mo?dels for new organizational forms will be developed and it will be evaluated whether the existing modeling techniques are sufficient to model the new organizational forms.
