Techniques for SAP hosting under Solaris 10

This paper shows how to use new operating systems concepts from SUN Solaris 10 for new hosting techniques in SAP environment. We will illustrate how to use the zone concept for moving a SAP system, installed inside a zone, from one host to another one within some minutes. Therefore the new filesystem called Zettabyte filesystem and the new zone concept will be explained in detail. We will also give you an idea about the capabilities of the new resource capping daemon for trimming the memory of a running SAP system till it is hibernated. We will also reduce the available CPUs for a SAP system as well. We will show how to profit from these features by hosting several SAP systems on one machine instead of using more machines for the task. We close this paper with a discussion about future work in the SAP hosting environment.     «
