Many chemicals can be found in the environment which have estrogenic effects. Up to now, the effects on gene expression of fish have been examined to a limited extent only. In this work male zebrafish (
Danio rerio) were exposed to different substances under stable conditions in flow-through systems and changes in gene expression were analyzed. The main focus was on qPCR experiments to detect changes in the expression of marker genes compared to reference genes. Based on these results, changes in the gene expression pattern of 14,000 genes were examined. It was shown that different chemicals cause estrogenic effects in different ways and that there are marker genes for these effects as well as substance-specific marker genes.
