The following scientifc investigation concentrates on the development and testing of a high resolutional concept for the analysis of roundwood quality. It is tested on spruce (Picea abies L. (Karst)) and beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). The high resolutional concept includes following investigations in the field of wood science: year ring measurement, densitiy measurement, strength testing on error-free samples, knottiness, reaction wood in spruce wood and optional colouring in beech wood. Computertomography as a non-destructive testing method is tested on beech wood. The high resolution of this technology is investigated to be applicalbe for detecting e.g. knottiness, density features in the roundwood and the optional colouring of beech.
