Organometallic gold(I) NHC complexes are known for their antiproliferative activities, rendering them promising candidates for novel chemotherapeutic agents. Besides the widely investigated imidazole-based systems, this thesis focuses on the class of mesoionic NHCs, namely 1,2,3-triazolylidenes and tetrazolylidenes. The resulting bis-NHC gold(I) complexes were found to be readily available following established synthesis routes and show remarkable antiproliferative activity (tetrazolylidenes) and high versatility through post-functionalization (triazolylidene).
