Changes in upper tropospheric and lower stratospheric water vapour content have a major influence on the temperature distribution in the whole atmosphere, and, in relation to this, on the climate of our globe. The objective of this thesis is the development and testing of a high-power-lidar, which offers, for the first time, the possibility of synchronised measurement of water vapour profiles up to an altitude of 25 km and temperature profiles up to 80 km, from a ground measuring station, with a measuring time of less than 2 hours.
