In two experiments the effect of gibberellic acid on artichoke plants (seedlings and direct seeding) was studied under Egyptian environmental conditions. Growth parameters (vegetative growth and flower head) were significantly influenced as well as the content of substances (total and reducing sugar, inulin, total protein, chlorogenic acid, cynarin, anthocyanin, analysed at the Chair of Vegetative Science, TUM). In a third experiment at the research station Dürnast, TUM the number of offshoots was increased by different methods of apex removal, which appeared as a good method for rapid field propagation.
