After the transition to the cracked state II, reinforced concrete girders have a considerable loss of torsional stiffness. In the present work, the essential influence parameters of this significant loss of stiffness are developed and further investigated by numerical simulations and experimental investigations. In particular, the influences of the arrangement of the stirrups, the bearing conditions in the longitudinal axis of the beam, the duration of the applied load as well as an alternating torsional moment are analyzed for the torsional stiffness. Finally, an engineering model is provided with the approximately two-time linear curve of torsional stiffness can be quantified for state I and II.
