Abstract:

Tumorigenesis is influenced by the tumor microenvironment and the immune system. Interferon-induced CXCL-chemokines, soluble immune mediators, were identified as crucial indicators for good prognosis in patients with colon cancer. Cancer cells were identified as main producers of CXCs within colon tumors. An orthotopic mouse model for rectal cancer was established, demonstrating a protective anti-tumoral role for the chemokine CXCL10, mediated by adaptive immunity and inhibition of angiogenesis.
