Imaging of intact, living specimen, especially model organisms has become an important and powerful tool to study genetic function, morphogenesis and several diseases. However, classical light microscopy always suffers from limited penetration depth. In this thesis we introduce a hybrid selective plane illumination microscope (SPIM) and optoacoustic mesoscopy setup, enabling imaging of model organisms, such as the zebrafish from early larval stage, up to adulthood when the fish is several mm in width.
