In secondary analyses from the INFAT randomized controlled trial, the influence of candidate perinatal biomarkers in blood and breast milk on body composition were investigated in children from 2 – 5 years old. Adipose tissue mass was assessed with skinfold thickness measurements, abdominal ultrasound and abdominal MRI. The investigated metabolic and fatty acid biomarkers were largely unrelated to growth and adipose tissue mass in young children. This work highlights the need for long-term follow-up studies in children.
