Concept and status quo of the AGATE educational anaphylaxis patient training program

Anaphylaxis is a severe life-threatening generalised or systemic hypersensitivity reaction. Many patients with anaphylaxis need an emergency medication kit including adrenaline autoinjector. Self-medication with different antiallergic medications requires complex knowledges and skills, which are not transferable through standard instructions by the physician. An anaphylaxis group educational program aids in protecting the patients and in improving quality of life. From the members of the working group on anaphylaxis, education and training (AGATE), a guideline-driven, evidencebased, standardized and structured group educational program for patients, children and caregivers has been constructed, which does not only procure necessary knowledge, but also disease management and empowerment. At the moment not enough educational programs can be offered in Germany for the patients. An ensured cost defrayal by the health insurance is necessary and is striven for.     «
