DRONEVAC describes a highly innovative concept to treat and transport severely injured or medically endangered patients. It is based on the most recent scientific data revealing that the combination of very few but effective lifesaving maneuvers with an autonomous most rapid airborne transport might have a substantial impact on patient survival. DRONEVAC is planned as an addition to existing rescue systems for preserving critical resources, such as medical staff or transportation vehicles. It can be utilized in potential mass casualty incidents in the civil setting, such as flooding and terrorist bombing as well as for military scenarios. The medical concept is very pragmatic: first line treatment is applied based on the MARCH criteria from tactical combat casualty care (TCCC): bleeding control by tourniquets and hemostatics, airway control by nasopharyngeal tube and needle thoracic decompression, hypothermia prevention by heating inside the drone. Additionally, the vital signs of the patient are monitored using telemedical devices and the operator can communicate with the trauma victim to prevent panic reactions. Transport is performed by an autonomously flying high-tech hexacopter drone.
