Within the scope of this dissertation, factors influencing the treatment of road runoff using stormwater quality improvement devices (SQIDs) were investigated. The specific research objectives were (i) quantification of heavy metal leaching from sorptive filter media used in SQIDs during dry periods, (ii) determination of heavy metal mobility in sorptive filter media of SQIDs, (iii) description of dissolved organic matter in untreated and treated road runoff and its impact on heavy metal retention, and (iv) investigating the effect of temperature and de-icing salt on the sedimentation of road-deposited sediment.
