This work presents a new procedure of noise prediction for sounds that result from frictional tangential movements in the contact areas of adjacent parts. Compared to state of the art methods, improved results are achieved through nonlinear calculation of the underlying oscillations. The Harmonic Balance Method is applied to a to calculate the system’s response to external excitation, taking friction in the contact area into account. Results are compared to an established but less efficient calculation method as well as to hardware tests. The sound power radiated by the system is estimated, yielding to an absolute measure for the sound to be expected.
