Abstract:

Integrating augmented reality information via contact analog Head-Up Display (cHUD) into an automated car raises the question what effect a cHUD has on the driver during a take-over process. The first experiment investigated a take-over situation with an uncontrolled system boundary caused by a malfunction of the Adaptive Cruise Control System (ACC). The second experiment investigated a take-over situation with a controlled system boundary initiated by a navigation decision. Drivers with the cHUD were supported by an augmented reality navigation aid.
