This thesis analyses the consequences of non-axial inflow on the operation of propellers as being part of the typical flight envelope of small aircraft. Isolated, ducted, and coaxial propellers as well as a propeller-wing-configuration are analyzed revealing their unique behavior for non-axial inflow conditions, which may lead to a pinpoint propulsion system design and an improved aerodynamic efficiency of future aircraft. The work is based on wind tunnel campaigns featuring forces and surface pressure measurements and PIV as well as URANS-simulations to study the flow field topology in vicinity of the propellers.

Diese Arbeit untersucht die Auswirkungen einer nicht-axialen Anströmung auf den Betrieb von Propellern als Teil des typischen Missionsprofils kleiner Fluggeräte. Isolierte, ummantelte und koaxiale Propeller sowie eine Propeller-Flügel-Konfiguration werden analysiert und ihr jeweiliges Verhalten bei nicht-axialer Anströmung offengelegt. Die Ergebnisse können zu einer zielgerichteten Entwicklung von Antriebssystemen und zu aerodynamisch effizienteren Fluggeräten beitragen. Die Arbeit basiert sowohl auf Windkanalexperimenten mit Kraft- und Oberflächendruckmessungen sowie PIV, als auch auf URANS-Simulationen zur Untersuchung der Strömungstopologie in der Nähe der Propeller.
